I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
Mr. Alex Rowell Jr., 54, was the younger child of the late Alex Rowell, Sr. and Ruby Lee Hyman Rowell. He was born in Florence, South Carolina, on November 10, 1969. “Jr.”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, transitioned peacefully on the afternoon of January 23, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.
Jr. was educated in Florence County School District Two and graduated from Hannah-Pamplico High School in 1988. He worked for several years as a dish machine operator at Shoney’s Restaurant, Ryan’s Steakhouse, McLeod Regional Medical Center, and Francis Marion University. He was a seasonal worker for 10 years at the Sea Mist Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Trinity AME Church. There he faithfully served as an Usher, a Trustee, a member of the Sons of Allen, and a member on the Unity Choir.
Jr. loved to watch wrestling and take trips. He frequently listened to gospel music while sitting on the porch. He also eagerly looked forward to directing traffic at the annual Cypress Festival in Pamplico, South Carolina.
While living at the Thorne Avenue Home in Kingstree, South Carolina, he enjoyed attending the Art of Living Adult Day Center. When he moved to the Carlyle Senior Care Nursing Home in Dillon, South Carolina, he had fun talking to the residents and participating in the activities.
Jr. will be remembered for his laughter, fun-loving spirit, and willingness to always want to help someone. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a sister, Rudy Van (Arthur) Williamson of Florence, South Carolina; a nephew, Arthur “AJ” D. Williamson; a niece, Gwen Williamson, Baltimore, Maryland; an uncle, David Rowell of Buffalo, New York; and other loving relatives, and dear friends.
