Alfonso “Al” Timmons, son of Kenneth Timmons and Rena Margie Boatwright, was born in Pamplico, South Carolina on April 2, 1954. For 65 years, Alfonso was a kind and greatly loved, son, father, grandfather, nephew, cousin, and friend to many people. On Sunday February 2, 2020, after a strong-willed fight with illness, Al accepted his new position with God at MUSC-Health Florence Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina.

Al attended Plainfield Public Schools in Plainfield, New Jersey, graduation from Plainfield High School in June of 1973. During his high school career, Al excelled in varsity baseball and varsity football, setting several athletic records as a member of the Plainfield Cardinal Football team. After high school, Al attended Kean University earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. In 1978, Al married Mary Hemphill where they had two daughters, raising their family in Plainfield, New Jersey.

While living in New Jersey, Al worked for Runnels VA Hospital for many years then went on to work for the Plainfield Board of Education as a senior member of the Custodian staff for the public-school system. When he relocated to the family home in Marion, South Carolina, Al worked for Beneteau Boats in Marion, South Carolina and McLeod Hospital System in Florence, South Carolina. During the remainder of his life in South Carolina, Al enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandson, Quasem who like his Granddad, has a love for baseball and football.

Al has been welcomed in heaven by his beloved parents and grandparents; his eldest daughter Tonya Timmons; his Aunts Anna Mae Belin, Lessie Bennett, and his Uncles Isaiah Benbow and Roland Boatwright.
