JOHN HENRY BROWN was born March 7, 1930, the oldest son of the late Jesse Brown and Tinza Bostick Brown. He was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at MUSC Health, in Florence South Carolina.
John Henry attended the public schools in Florence County, SC. He worked for Palmetto Turf Farm for 40 plus years. He was very devoted to his job until his health declined. John Henry enjoys working on his lawnmower, planting a garden, and going fishing. He was well known throughout the community. He especially loved giving advice even when it was not asked. He enjoyed riding and sightseeing. His favorite hangout spots were Hannah Supply Farm store, reminiscing with the fellows and his buddy Sabrina Floyd in the IGA parking lot.
At an early age, John Henry joined Aimwell Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong member. He was married to the late Gracie Lee McNeil Brown for 45 years and was blessed with five children. John Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Allen McNeil, three brothers; Solomon, Ben, and Billy Brown, two sisters; Lillie Mae Self and Ollie Mae Brown, four grandchildren; Marshall Black, who he raised as his own son; Cedrick Woodberry, Wanda Black and Shenika Richardson.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories four daughters: Donnie Woodberry, Joyce McAllister, Shelby Jean McNeil, and Margret Richardson. Two sisters, Betty Lee Stanford, who was his devoted caregiver and confidant, and Jessie Lee Brown. Three brothers, Willie Brown, Harry “Bubba” (Starleen) Brown and Joseph “Buster” Brown. Two grandsons whom he raised as his sons, Gregory (Carissa) Brown and Maceo (Phines) Black. One daughter-in-law Artless McNeil, nine grandchildren; Andrea (Michael), Sherry, Maceo, Gregory, Kendra (Clinton), Brandon (Kelly), Taurice (Jamaica), Antwan and Derek. He also had fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. A very special great nephew who was his riding partner, Victor Shakur Jackson who he called “Corey”. A great-great niece Brielle Smith, his little Squeaky. A special niece Amanda Rogers, great niece Zarya Bostick, great nephew Tywan Rogers, and nephew Dan Rogers and a special honorable granddaughter Andrea Hugee. Special friends Terry Powell, Russ and Tommy Benton, Kevin (Lisa) McAllister, and Lisa Harmon, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends that he loved dearly.
